2011 GMC Acadia and other GMC models expected to flourish this year

Research performed by CCP staff writer found that major interruptions of available power in Japan due to rolling blackouts will create opportunities for the American automotive industry to flourish in Charlotte, Monroe and Matthews, NC! The GMC Acadia, Terrain, Sierra and other models will be in higher demand due to the anticipated reduction of Japanese vehicle production.

Following the disastrous tsunami, record-breaking earthquake and nuclear plant disaster in Japan, all major Japanese automotive plants have shut down production. In addition to any damage sustained at various facilities from the earthquake and many aftershocks, the entire country must now deal with rolling blackouts.

Due to the recent nuclear plant failure and other catastrophic events, Japan has reduced energy available for all regions. Tokyo Electric Power, or Tepco, had to shut down reactors at two nuclear power plants, in addition to five conventional power plants, according to a recent news article. Every day, each area must allow for a three hour shutdown, stopping all manufacturing facilities regularly.

In addition to the main automotive plants, the parts manufacturers and steel plants, such as Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless Steel, are currently shut down. The reduced parts available and limited steel operations will also hinder Japanese vehicle production for at least the next few months.

Even in America, “Toyota plans to close its five domestic plants, including those operated by its subsidiaries, and 12 auto parts plants,” Toyota officials said according to another news source. Although many Japanese manufacturers are located in the U.S., the intermittent automotive parts supply will limit their productivity.

Understandably, the world is reaching out to Japan in its hour of need; however these impacting events will cause long-term effects on many industries. It will be an opportunity for American-made vehicles regain significant market share in the automotive industry in 2011.
