If considering the basic versions of the 2014 GMC Terrain, including the Denali, they all come equipped with a standard 2.4-liter, direct-injection 4-cylinder engine that offers up 182 horsepower and 172 lb.-ft. of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission directs output to the front wheels or, when the optional AWD system is added, both front and rear wheels.
For the ultimate 2014 Terrain experience, the top-of-the-line Denali version comes with upgrades including rear cross-traffic and side blind-zone alerts, wood interior accents, unique exterior appointments, retuned suspension, and either 18- or 19-inch alloy wheels (dependent upon engine choice).

EPA fuel-economy estimates for the 2014 GMC Terrain are:
- Terrain FWD with 4-cylinder engine: 22/32/26 mpg (city/highway/combined)
- Terrain FWD with 6-cylinder engine: 17/24/20 mpg
- Terrain AWD with 4-cylinder engine: 20/29/23 mpg
- Terrain AWD with 6-cylinder engine: 16/23/19 mpg
Safety and Ratings
In crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the 2014 GMC Terrain received an overall rating of 4 (out of 5) stars. In tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Terrain received a “Good” rating–the Institute’s highest–for moderate frontal-offset crash protection.
Safety features on the Terrain include 6 standard air bags, 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, electronic stability control, and the rearview camera, as well as available features including rear cross-traffic alert and lane-departure warning.
GMC IntelliLink uses Bluetooth or USB to connect the driver’s smartphone to Terrain’s new seven-inch, high-resolution, full-color touch screen display radio. IntelliLink allows smartphone control via voice activation and steering wheel-mounted controls, and streaming stereo audio from the phone through services like Pandora® internet radio and Stitcher SmartRadio®.
