Thanks to General Motors’ excellent automotive innovators we can now look forward to a new evolution of the Acadia and Acadia Denali vehicles! Recently the company unveiled that production of the two 2013 Acadia remodels was underway. The 2013 Acadias will be showcasing new exterior as well as interior safety features and the much talked about industry first, the new front and center airbag.
The Acadia line was launched not that long ago, only in 2007. The vehicle was GMC’s first crossover and has gained huge popularity since its inclusion under the General Motors name. the vehicle actually had its highest grossing year in 2011 since its inception. The Denali model wasn’t released until 2010, but has also brought the Acadia line some fame by appealing to those who prefer luxury vehicle style.
“With an award-winning combination of space, capability and fuel-efficiency, Acadia epitomizes GMC’s ‘never say never’ attitude,” said Tony DiSalle, U.S. vice president of GMC Marketing. “For 2013, our engineers and designers applied that same attitude to developing the new Acadia.”
Those familiar with the Acadia line shouldn’t worry that some of its more popular features will be gone in the remodel. The new Acadias will keep many of their popular family friendly functions such as the SmartSlide seating. SmartSlide seating is an excellent technology where the owners of a vehicle can easily slide the front seating out of the way to provide other passengers access to the rear seating or to use the rear seating for storage without having to open the trunk. The second and third rows of the vehicles will still fold flat like they have in previous models which allows the owner to maximize cargo space by utilizing those seating areas for storage. This cargo space utilization can even allow the owner to haul forty eight inch wide sheet goods like drywall and plywood.
The vehicle was given not only new safety and comfort features, but also new detailing and customization as well. The new detailing features include diffused LED running lamps standard on all models and new taillamp detailing. The new models actually have several detailing and design updates like wrap around rear glass and a new rear spoiler. The new models will also feature great new soft touch materials that have detailed French stitching and a soft red ambient light across the dashboard.
Though General Motors is happy to bring its customer base new aesthetic features, it is even more excited to announce the new safety and technology features such as the front and center airbag mentioned previously.
“While no restraint technology can address all body regions or all potential injuries, the front center air bag is designed to work with the vehicle’s other air bags and safety belts to collectively deliver an even more comprehensive occupant restraint system,” said Gay Kent, GM executive director of Vehicle Safety and Crashworthiness.
Other important safety products that will be showcased on the new Acadia models are the Side Blind Zone Alert system and the Rear Cross Traffic Alert system. An older technology, radar, is utilized in these systems to warn the driver of potential collisions in areas outside the vehicle that the driver may have difficulty viewing through traditional mirrors.
“When designing the new Acadia, we considered the contemporary shapes and materials GMC buyers expect from many products they buy,” said Dave Lyon, executive director of design. “The Denali’s attention to detail is the ultimate demonstration of this approach.”
