The 2012 GMC Terrain has always come standard with the Color Touch Radio technology that GMC customers love. But now GMC is throwing in a new great technology as an optional feature to go with the Color Touch Radio and that is the IntelliLink system! The IntelliLink connects to your smartphone and allows you to control the audio system with only your voice! With IntelliLink you can start a phone call through your smartphone with a voice command, you can change the radio station, you can start streaming with the internet radio function, and you can even connect IntelliLink to your iPod and control it!
The IntelliLink system is designed to be as hands free as possible, so that the driver can focus on the road and keep both hands on the wheel. The layout of the IntelliLink system is designed to provide the driver with the minimum amount of distractions possible so that users can stay focused on the task of driving the vehicle. And the IntelliLink isn’t just about making sure the driver can remain concentrated on the road, though that is very important. The makers of the IntelliLink designed it so that it provides customization and excellent, useful features.
Some of the great features on the IntelliLink are the icons available to hook you up to your favorite internet radio station like Pandora or Stitcher. These two internet radio providers can be played through your car’s speakers by connecting your smartphone via Bluetooth. And if you are using Pandora you can even utilize Pandora’s thumbs up and thumbs down features through the Color Touch Radio seven inch touchscreen.
The IntelliLink will also allow you to customize the homepage of the Color Touch Radio Touchscreen, like you would with your smartphone. The IntelliLink comes preloaded with icons for using the phone, radio, Pandora, and other great technologies. The icons are completely customizable, as you can shift them around on the screen and delete them to reflect which features you use the most and what is most convenient for you.
Most of the features that come with the IntelliLink are controlled completely hands free. The hands free voice control system, powered by Nuance, allows the driver to place calls or direct the radio to play a particular song or station. And if you have music you want to play but don’t have an MP3 player then that’s ok! As long as you have a copy of the files, you can place them on a usb drive and plug that drive into the center console to access your music through the IntelliLink’s system!
“About 70 percent of all new car buyers want some form of connectivity,” said Micky Bly, executive director leading GM’s infotainment engineering efforts, citing GM research. “Whether it’s because they want to listen to their favorite music or hear movie times on the way to the theater, today’s car buyer expects so much more out of their time in a car.”
Those who purchase the IntelliLink system can also connect their IntelliLink account through their smartphone by downloading the free RemoteLink app available for both iPhone and Android. The app will allow customers to check tire pressure and fuel levels as well as lock and unlock their doors electronically. Some models, if they are equipped with remote start, will allow the customer to start the engine through the app wirelessly, doing so from any place where there is a cell phone signal available.
Right now the IntelliLink has been made available on the GMC Terrain SLT-2 V-6, but it will soon be coming to all SLT models. The IntelliLink is also going to be made available on the brand new Acadia 2013 remodel as well as the Acadia Denali remodel, available late this year.
